At Lascaux we have a wide range of technical skills, but we are particularly strong in the areas of network systems and solutions.
We are experts in the design and administration of multi-platform network systems, covering the entire range of services from requirements analysis, system design, implementation, security analysis, performance troubleshooting, and ongoing support services.
We have in-depth expertise of client/server and peer-to-peer configurations,
LAN and WAN systems, TCP/IP (plus many other protocols), and Internet-based
remote access and monitoring; all of this from top-level design, analysis and
support, right down to low-level software and hardware development. This breadth
of experience gives us an insight into network connected systems that is very
rare.
We are fully accustomed to working in multi-platform environments both at the
server and workstation level, with experience in establishing flexible and expandable
systems comprising one or more of the following components:
| Windows 2003/2000/NT servers including Active Directory services | |||
| Windows XP/2000/NT/ME/98/95 workstations | |||
| Novell Netware servers (all versions) | |||
| Linux, Solaris and other Unix-based servers and workstations | |||
| Macintosh servers and workstations - Mac OS X, OS 8/9 (Classic) | |||
| Exchange Server, Groupwise and Lotus Notes | |||
| Internet gateway and firewall systems | |||
| Internet mail and web servers | |||
| Security and access control systems | |||
| VPN and dial-up remote access | |||
| Demand-dial point-to-point routing using varying transports | |||
We pride ourselves on providing cost-effective solutions devised by consultants
with a wealth of networking and computer-systems experience. This means we can
draw upon knowledge of multiple different environments, installations and operating
systems in order to devise an appropriate solution for our clients rather than,
as some companies do, adjusting the requirements to fit a slightly modified
standard solution.
We can advise the client regarding the purchase of equipment for their needs,
or supply, fit and test all equipment as part of a complete design and installation
service.
Our support services are predominantly telephone and remote-access based, an
ideal solution for small to medium sized enterpises who can't afford or don't
want to employ additional staff to administer the systems (candidates with experience
like ours are both rare and expensive). In 95% of situations our telephone/remote-access
support successfully provides a solution to a clients problems using systems
such as ISDN, Virtual Private Networking (using permanent or dial-up Internet
links), or a direct modem link; a site visit only being necessary for the remaining
5% when hands-on contact is required, e.g. to investigate problems such as complete
hardware failure. This means that we provide a very rapid response to problems,
and in many cases a complete fix, before many support companies would have arrived
to take a first look.
Where called upon to expand a network system's capability, or design a new,
flexible system from scratch - ensuring that it can develop and grow along with
a client's business - it is essential to have a thorough understanding of the
details, strengths and weaknesses of many network components and protocols.
We have a wealth of such knowledge built up over many years. The suite of technologies
that we have utilized includes, but is not limited to:
| TCP/IP | |||
| DNS, SMTP, POP, DHCP, HTTP, FTP and TFTP, BOOTP, PPP and PPTP, SOCKS, SNMP, RADIUS, NFS, RPC | |||
| IPX/SPX | |||
| NetBEUI | |||
| Ethernet - From simple 10M systems to switched Gigabit systems | |||
| Optical-fibre systems | |||
| ATM | |||
| ISDN | |||
| ADSL | |||
| Token Ring | |||
This experience has been central to a steadily increasing business providing consultancy services in the design, troubleshooting and support of network systems; working with systems varying from small LANs to substantial geographically distributed WANs.
